Niam Jain And Justin Trudeau

Niam Jain traveled to the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa to meet the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau. It was a proud moment for our family. My husband and I watched from the sidelines as our two boys, Rohan and Niam Jain took centre stage in the private office of Justin Trudeau.

Canadian abstract artist Niam Jain presented Justin Trudeau with a beautiful red scarf, emblazoned with his own original artwork. Niam was ecstatic as Justin happily accepted the gift. What took me aback was how natural Justin was in his interactions with Niam. He was kind, patient, and loving. He even held Niam’s hand. I have met many people who are awkward around Niam. Justin was just the opposite. It was not at all what I expected.

Justin was very interested in Niam’s artwork. He asked questions like: “How Did Niam Get Started?”, “What type of medium does he use?”, and “In what style does he paint?” Niam Jain is quasi-non-verbal, meaning that he has limited functional speech. Rohan, Niam’s older brother, quickly stepped in and explained that Niam Jain is a Canadian abstract artist living with autism, his paintings are sold worldwide, and he paints primarily in oils and in an impasto style.

Niam, who loves to dress up, wore his favourite yellow graffiti shirt and black Zara blazer for this unforgettable moment. You never know where a journey can take you. We are so proud of our son.
