The Making of ‘Colours and Rainbows’
This is a throwback video of Niam Jain in his early years. In support of Niam’s creativity, I created a workspace in a spare bedroom. I covered the walls and the floors – I did not want to restrain Niam or have him worried if paint was splattering throughout room. In this new space, he was free to express, experiment, learn and be an artist. Giving an artist permission to be free, the opportunity to express without hesitation, is like filling a car with fuel.
I love this video because it captures Niam in his element. He is thinking, swaying and moving his body in rhythm to each stroke that he applies to the canvas. Each paint layer responds to the one before – complementing, colliding and intersecting.
This abstract representation of a rainbow encourages the viewer to move inward through its layers, each a rainbow stacked on top of another, together forming an rich and robust structure.
